Double Celebration at Shalford Primary School

The village primary school of Shalford celebrated this week with the official opening of their new outdoor areas together with an accolade from Ofsted who has recently graded the school as good in every area of the inspection process. The Headteacher, Mrs Louise Venables, said that the report praised the community feel in the school and its children for being excited about their learning. Mrs Venables thanked the children, parents and staff for creating a friendly village school where pupils feel happy and cared for, and where they receive a good quality of education. The school is part of CHANGE School Partnership Multi Academy Trust, who were also praised for the part it has played in the school’s recent success.

Children, staff, governors and the village community joined together to open the new outside learning environment in Elm class (for Reception and Year 1) and the sensory garden. The new multi-surfaced area and new canopy means that learning can take place outside in all weathers. Teachers and staff have already enjoyed the new sensory garden; reading groups and quiet time take place in the new garden as well as environmental studies and pond dipping. Mrs Venables remarked that the children enjoy being outside and a love of the environment and nature is strongly encouraged. “We are very fortunate that the school has wonderful grounds set in the Essex countryside.”
